Human Rights and Development Services (HURDS) marked Day One of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence by commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women with an advocacy walk and the submission of a petition calling for an increase in the Domestic Violence Fund.

The advocacy walk formed part of HURDS’ efforts to draw public and institutional attention to the urgent need for strengthened financial support for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, particularly women and children.

Following the walk, HURDS formally submitted its petition to the Ministry of Finance through the Western Regional Coordinating Council. The petition was received on behalf of the Regional Minister by the Western Regional Coordinating Director, Madam Rachel Fosua Sarpong, who commended HURDS for its continued advocacy and commitment to protecting vulnerable groups. She assured the organization that the concerns raised would be reiterated and forwarded to Accra for consideration and review.

The submission of the petition underscores HURDS’ calls for increased investment in the Domestic Violence Fund to enhance access to protection, justice, and support services for survivors across the country.

As the 16 Days of Activism unfold, Human Rights and Development Services reaffirms its commitment to championing a safer Ghana for women, children, and all vulnerable groups, through sustained advocacy, community engagement, and policy-driven action.
