Our Heartbeat

We are promoting gender justice, protecting human rights and building stronger communities, through our carefully designed initiatives. Each initiative is carefully designed to address real challenges faced by women, children, and families

The Justice for All program is a legal empowerment initiative that provides free legal aid to the less privileged through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and legal advisory services. This program aims to promote equitable access to justice, amplify voices against domestic violence, and foster behavioural change that supports peaceful coexistence within families and communities.

At the heart of our work is the belief that empowering children is the first and most effective step in protecting them from abuse. Children must understand their rights to recognize when those rights are being violated. We also acknowledge the vital role that primary caregiver, duty bearers, and community members play in safeguarding children.

We prioritize the voices and perspectives of women and girls across all our programs. We actively challenge harmful social and religious norms that perpetuate Sexual and Gender- Based Violence (SGBV). We also engage faith-based and community leaders to recognize and address unequal power dynamics within their communities. we also advocate for the enforcement of existing laws to ensure adequate support systems for Survivors of SGBV.

HURDS believes that poverty is one of the causes of violence against women and girls. In order to reduce poverty and its associated consequences such as Child marriage and Teenage Pregnancy, HURDS trains young women and Persons with Disabilities in alternative livelihood programs such as bread baking, soap making, bead making etc.

Girls are often robbed of the right to make their own life decisions due to gender inequality and discrimination. They cannot choose what happens to their bodies, when and to whom they marry. 76 per 1000 births are born by teenage mothers between the age ranges of 15-19 yeas old. They assume adult responsibilities before age 18, they become mothers as minors and others suffer irreparable health complications for life.

As a member organisation of Ghana HIV/AIDS Network, we distribute HIV Self Test Kits and conduct HIV prevention education in fishing and rural  communities.
