Our History enfolds.

Human Rights and Development Services was founded by Eva Ankrah, who was motivated by her commitment to replicate the successful shelter model for sexually abused girls that she observed during her time as a volunteer with Ripples International. Located in Takoradi, HURDS at the inception phase, concentrated on producing and disseminating newsletters focused on child sexual violence, which were distributed in schools and throughout the broader community as part of awareness-raising efforts. Disclosures of child abuse frequently perpetrated by close relations emerged during sensitization activities with schoolchildren. These reports further informed Eva’s decision to expand HURDS’s mandate to include the provision of psychosocial support services, implemented in collaboration with key stakeholders and service providers. With sustained support, HURDS seeks to scale its impact, deepen its interventions, and continue working tirelessly to ensure that no girl is left unheard, unprotected, or unsupported in the face of sexual violence.
